The Machine is Us/ing Us?

I chose carefully for my afternoon workshop and decided upon:  Learn to Hack from Scratch: WordPress for Non-Geeks.  Nate Westheimer (AnyClip), Jonathan Berger (Pivotal Labs) were the speakers.  Summary:

Take your hacking skills “from zero to hero” by learning to install and modify WordPress, a simple yet powerful blogging tool which underlies nearly 80% of blogs. This hands-on workshop will teach you not only WordPress basics to get you up and running with a blog or website of your own, it will also provide an essential web technology orientation for non-geeks. (Bring a laptop!) So whether you’re looking to start a blog or hoping to be more conversant with the web developers in your organization, this workshop is for you.

They showed this early 2007 video intended to help people understand the concepts behind this.

As this rolls on, I’m thinking this is a bit too basic for me.  I’m already using WordPress  and I was really looking for hacks, which I don’t have the patience to wait for.  The guys are making the room install 3 things, including WordPress.  Nach.  Why would I do that when I already have a WordPress blog I use outside of HP and one I use inside of HP?  I think I’m going to go explore the other workshops already in progress.
